This week’s Spotlight focus is on one of our rising stars Sophia Kerpsack. With only her third year with us she has proven that even the biggest talent comes in small sizes. So we sat down with our shinning star to get to know her better.
I am seven years old and I’m a second grader at Mount Verde Academy. I have two older brothers and one older sister. I enjoy drawing pictures, swimming,playing with friends, and spending time with my family.
Another thing that I absolutely love is dancing at Shooting Stars. My favorite kinds of dance are Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Lyrical. I also get to Tumble which is awesome.
I practice dance about 13 hours a week which sounds like a lot to some people but not to me. At Christmas time we get to perform in parades and at different places. We always have a Christmas party together where we exchange gifts, and just have fun.Its like family to me because we’re together so much and we care about each other.
Ms. Melissa teaches us to put God first in everything we do, to always try our hardest, and to help others. She has a hard job but we know she loves it, and she loves us. Ms. Desiree also helps with my dances and pushes me to be better dancer.
Sometimes when I need help with turns, or one of my dances, I know that I can always count on one of the older girls to help me.
My very, very, very favorite thing is learning new dances for competition, and getting to do my solo, and duet which I do with my best friend.
Competition day is so much fun but sometimes I get a little nervous and so does my mommy. She tells me It’s a special day because it’s the only time I’m aloud to wear make-up, get my hair done, wear pretty sparkly costumes, and if I do really good dancing, I might get a trophy or plaque.
Once I step out onto the stage everything is great and I’m not nervous anymore. I hear my friends and teachers cheering me on, my music playing, and I know that I practiced so much that I can do this.
It makes me sad to even think about not getting to dance. I’m only seven but I love it that much!
